VALDOBBIADENE

Vineyards & Wine

It is difficult to imagine when and how viticulture began in these parts but a visit to these sites will make clear to everyone how the territory owes its beauty to the unending and tenacious work of man, who for centuries has embroidered these hills relentlessly, in all seasons, learning to work with his head before that with his hands and learning how to keep his balance on slopes so steep that in some cases they seem to be vertical.

The production in the hills of Valdobbiadene is today known as “Heroic Viticulture” by virtue of the fact that it is carried out by hand in land that is so steep and impervious that some of the vineyards barely present traces of roads and in many cases, it is only possible to reach the vines on foot with great difficulty holding one’s balance.

This is the difficult yet wonderful and unique context in which Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG has taken root: a wine now known more or less everywhere but far from simple to obtain and that can only be fully understood by getting to know its territory of origin.

Amongst these hills there are 3,5 hectares of vineyards owned by Zitelle, spread out between Valdobbiadene, the Cartizze hill and the hamlets of Guia and Farra di Soligo: over the years other small plots have been added to the historic vineyard once nurtured by the Zitelle. These plots, not far from the farmhouse, belonged to relatives and kin and were purchased and recovered so that they would not be lost piecemeal.

The small production of bottles making up the Zitelle collection is carefully nurtured from the cultivation of the vineyard through the grape harvest to the sparkling wine making process and bottling all with the aim of dedicating the production to the Guests of the Zitelle of Ron. The production is available in five types:

Le Zitelle aged on its own yeasts

Sparkling Wine “aged on its own yeasts” is Valdobbiadene’s traditional wine which was once made in every household, back when pressurised tanks, filters and bottling machines didn’t exist and when one would only follow the natural rhythm of nature. The wine that every grandfather made in their “caneva” cellar: “sediment wine”. Left to rest in barrels during the winter it was - and still is - bottled in the spring and left to age with the first warmth of the season to become slightly sparkling. Download the technical sheet
